2020 Catch-Up, Part V: Eat, Sleep, Flex, Repeat.

I was initally quite skeptical of Eat, Sleep, Flex, and Repeat and its confusingly high user score. I have a pretty strong distaste for Flex Entertainment, with most of its label mates putting out music that's pretty joyless and annoying, bar Lil Squeaky and Lil Mosquito Disease, they're cool. So when I say that Eat, Sleep, Flex, Repeat is my favorite comedy rap record ever (for now at least), you know that it's good. Featuring some surprisingly ... read more

Yung Schmoobin accidently makes everything I look for in a rap album.

Well I don't know if "accidently " is the correct word, because there's clearly a ton of work put into this. From the hilarious lyrics, to all the features, to the freakin Tobuscus intro! GODDAMN!

One you get past the spectacle of the album you see how well crafted and just...legit is is. Actual real rapping and production. After listening to hundred of just awful meme rap, hearing one that has effort? It's so ... read more

UPDATE: Score went from 90 to 70

I relistened to this in full again and I feel I may have been a bit too generous. This album still is one of the most solid comedy rap releases I've heard but there are still some problems with it, mostly just a few songs that don't match up to the level of some of the higher highs on here such as Meningitis, Universal Flex and Ex Want Some Clout. Overall I still think this is a decent project and I'm still anticipating whatever Schmoobin releases next.

Yung Schmoobin taught me something that looking back on my most recent album 24KARAT, really kept it back from really reaching the great meme rap I was aiming to make.

Don't try too hard. It's meme rap, not an otherworldly post-rock experience for crying out loud.

Yung Schmoobin takes a simple and basic approach to the genre on Eat, Sleep, Flex, Repeat, and it makes for a really solid and quite fun project. Nothing felt particularly forced, the production was rather simple but worked to his ... read more

[ALBUM OF THE DAY CHALLENGE: DAY 12]

The fact that I'm giving this a positive score is just as baffling to me as it is to you. Y'all know how I feel about Flex. Y'all know how I feel about Lil Karat Stixx's project. Yet...here we are.

Schmoobin is a surprisingly decent rapper. He has lots of charisma, with just the right amount of casualty/playfulness to sound natural. His flows stay sharp on the beat, along with having a fun voice to listen to. Comedy music is pretty reliant on delivery, so ... read more
