This was... haunting.
There's not much information I can find about Canadian artist Heaven's Emperor, other than they specialise in a mix of Drone / Plunderphonics-styled music, and this album released in September 2018.
I was not prepared for the dark territory this record goes into. It was... a rather dark journey of human emotions that left me kinda stunned after it was over.
The production on this can be described as disorienting and abrasive. It has this harsh, static-like quality to it ... read more
Depression is such a real word. I can’t begin to describe how it’s affected me and so many other people. Depression is a real word, it’s a real place that people have to live in every single day, and it’s so incredibly painful to sit in.
Depression is a real place that people are forced to live in, a place in which you can never truly leave, a place that will leave you traumatised forever, that is if you ever even escape it, it’s an endless maze full of thorns and ... read more
HEAVEN'S EMPEROR - TEENAGE POETRY
??? what the fuck is this??? Generally I'm a very pretentious guy who finds useless imaginative meaning in art which probably isn't there. But this album just is the definition of going too far with a concept. I get that this is a venting album but it all just seems like trauma baiting shock value to me. Meaningless and badly integrated samples along with extremely subpar drones and just decent noise makes this so damn boring. Also learning the fact that the ... read more
I don't really know how to start this review but i'll start with the creator themselves while not a lot is known about Heaven's Emperor or Hobbes (which he goes by now) one thing is known they predominantly make drone/vaporwave music is candian and has 3 projects Hobbes (now being his main one) Heaven's Emperor and Hyperbloom he has released multiple albums under these names Heaven's Emperor being his most popular despite still being extremally unknown now on to the project itself.
I was ... read more
Update: The album is off spotify and YouTube now for some reason. you can probably still find it on bandcamp however.
I have decided to come back to this review after multiple listens throughout the days.
When I first listened to this album, I expected this to be a terrible listen, but its a great album to give a full listen to. Its a very ambient album and that's not something I normally like, but this album did it in a great way.
Right away, its a powerful album, clearly about the bouts ... read more
Read this review in descending or ascending order. I wrote this review ascending, but I've tried to make descending bearable.

I don't like thinking about your reaction to this review, haven't even thought about my reaction to this album. Anytime I imagine something happen, it never does. I pray my thoughts don't get the best of me, and make you incapable of hearing this. I know you think this is crazy, but trust me, my happiest moments and future memories are all trapped in my head. ... read more

I need to relisten to this cause i dont think my phone speakers gave it justice but damn this is something else
This album is so noisy and it just emits raw emotion. This is for sure a diamond in the rough album that I recommend highly. It does contain a lot of themes of depression and suicide so if that ain't for you maybe stay away from this one.
Note: I listened to it so loud that I got a migraine the next day, that's how you know its good. This is some of the best furry music too.
Edit: This Album deserves a re-listen and a re-review from me. Glad to see its getting the attention it deserves.
This album is crazy, might be the most depressing thing I have ever heard
Flat 8/10
Fav song: Fear Of Men
Idk how to rate this one. It’s so overwhelmingly devastating to me (especially with the music video on yt) and I’ve never listened to any album like it. But at the same time, I physically can’t come back to it. It’s amazing, but even for me it’s too depressing…
I should probably also mentioned that it’s been a few months since I’ve listened to whatever the hell this thing is, but I still remember the amount of devastation Fear Of God put on my ... read more
i finished listening to this and like
fucking haunting
its so good in too many levels
it goes to the topic of depression which i unfortunately relate to
but it does it in a specific way that makes it unique and special
it uses its samples in a way to make something of their own
especially how the song goes from inaudible with the album opener which slowly calms down after the Bloodmouth interlude (catchy yet sad) and devolves into just
utter sadness
and even better
most (if not all) of the ... read more

I listen to a lot of sad albums because they give me comfort and show the light in the dark in bad parts of my life. Teenage Poetry is the opposite of that exact concept, you will feel at your lowest listening to this, you will feel pain, you will be face to face with the terrifying monster which is depression and death.
This is one of the hardest albums I've had to listen to. This is depression and suffering in it's rawest form. I watched the original music video which came with this album ... read more
Making albums based on sadness is a pretty common theme in most genres, especially when it comes to ambient music and shoegaze. I was expecting something dark, and that's just what I got, but this feels a little overkill at times. I get that Hobbes was likely going through a bad time but tracks like Fear of God and Grant feel a little redundant here, like the artist's only goal while writing this is to make it sound as depressing as possible. I totally get how some people might enjoy those ... read more
Have absolutely no idea what this is, or any context given prior to it's eventual creation. I simply found this surfing AOTY in the "Vaporwave" genre category, so this was a complete shot in the dark to what laid ahead.
It's a strange album... It's one that's truly hard to write about, like. It didn't necessarily make me feel any strong emotion listening to it, but I certainly felt something about at least very track on here. Everything blended so well together, it was hard to pick ... read more
I'm very conflicted with this album. The production and execution is fantastic; however, the way in which the samples are used to invoke the feeling of suicide feel way too extreme, to the point that, imo, it wouldn't be all that unreasonable to call it very bad taste or even offensive.
This is difficult, and in a way, it's a challenge for the person who separates art from its source. I don't know if what I just said makes sense.
Another question which comes to mind with this album is this: ... read more
This is definitely a rollercoaster.
People definitely find this to be either distasteful or extremely corny because of the music video to feature the suicide Daniel V. Jones in the first song as well as the entire album dealing with "sadboy music to intentionally make you sad for the sake of it" but personally, I don't find it as that. I mean I don't condone the suicide footage usage, it's not really needed for this, but the album itself is one big experience of someone's mental ... read more
