How much can you tolerate with this extensively stripped down to the core, raw, female confession without being overblown?
I have been dying to cover the albums of PJ Harvey for a long time and after finalizing the first record, I'm genuinely like a kid in a candy store just running around trying to compose myself.

If any album took the loud-quiet-loud dynamic to the extreme, it would be PJ Harvey's debut record Dry. "Dry"is the album that comes to my mind when i think about a youthful album.The album is full of energy, raw in a good way and chaotic. Despite that, the themes of this stunning debut ar not always happy,for example in the song"oh my lover", PJ tries to maintain her relationship and she is willing even to ignore that he is unfaithfull to her. Dry is an album that lives up to its name. Ultra rough, dry, most of the music has a hyper trenchy bass line.

You could almost put this album in the "badass" category. Dress is a perfect example of Pj Harvey's future: Rid of me. A bit provocative, sensual, aggressive. The whole thing is done with class and contrasts a bit with the punk and indie rock scene of the 90s.

No wonder Rid of Me and Dry inspired other artists of the 90s (hi kurt!).
