Tim Hecker - 3/10

EDIT: 70 - 80
Not sure what shit I was on at first, as this thing flows wonderfully. It creates an enthrallingly dark and dreary world with glimmers of beauty that keep me enchanted. Definitely not his most astounding work overall but its high points are unbelievable and it works very well as a whole.

Although "Mirages" is Tim's most daring and unconventional project yet, it's also his messiest and most awkward, at least when it comes to its execution.

another banger album from da goat tim hecker, it doesn't stand out that much in his discography but it's still a solid album imo (y'all might've gotten the jist that i love music like this ahah)

Tim Heckler returns and is even noisier than before. The contrasts between the noisier and more ambient sounds are seemless and the flow is perfect, but it also feels more aimless and there's no standout tracks other than the dense "Incurably Optimistic!"

Fav Tracks: Incurably Optimistic!, Neither More or Less, The Truth of Accountants, Balkanize-You, Celestina, Aerial Light-Pollution Orange

Least Fav Track: Counter Attack

Tim hecker once again creates a magical, insanely interesting world. But I will say this album doesn’t really reach its peak until the last two songs. Those ones are truly magnificent and absolutely take me to another place entirely. Whereas the beginning can feel a bit less transformative in context.

Thematically grappling with the acephalous nature of man's place in the cosmos and the sehnsucht for something beyond where our lives current are; urban, dark, materialistic, and short-lived, this album coats you in a blanket of comfort using vaguely distant samples, familiar sounds, and the all-too-iconic noise pedal padding of Tim's distinct style.

Tim's early ambient methodology, honed for multiple albums and unleashed in full here as a tour de force before Harmony In Ultraviolet, create ... read more

Tim Hecker, who I’ve been growing to love more and more this past week, is an incredible sound engineer, producer, and visionary when it comes to the ambient genre.
Mirages is his most intriguing release. I can see exactly what he was going for here, imagine this playing while you walk home at night, the foot path only barely lit by the street lights as you pull your coat closer for warmth. The cover art is ironically what I imagine that scene looking like.

It’s got to be an ... read more
