I was watching an interview with Tame Impala mastermind Kevin Parker and in it he mentioned that there wasn’t much a music scene where he grew up, so he and his friends all started different bands and would work together on their music. The man behind the synths of Tame Impala and the guitars, bass and keys of Pond, Jay Watson is a name that is hard to not have heard of in the psychedelic rock world. He's now back with a new album as his solo project "GUM". The album is well produced with some really nice tracks that differentiate from the Pond and Tame Impala sound. Jay has been making roughly the same album for years. It's not a bad formula, but it's starting to lose its charm.
Best tracks: The Thrill of doing it right, Low to Low
Out In The World is a fun, light, and unique listening experience because GUM isn't afraid to take risks and explore new styles. The sound palette (especially the drums) may sound cheap and the vocals may be mixed too softly at times but it adds to the aesthetic.
