On balance, this is a fair release covering a sound that Swans would never again revisit.
Swans' debut EP slaps... And that's about it. It just slaps you a lot until it's over. It just keeps beating you, and beating you, and beating you for 19 minutes. The hemorrhage I got was pretty radical though, so this gets my approval... Ouch! 💥

Swans' no wave era is one that would always be difficult to get into. The genre itself is so damn unforgiving that the average listener who may only know Swans from their more hypnotic and beautiful works would not enjoy a second of it. If there was any album I would use to introduce a less experienced music listener to this period of Swans, it would be their debut self-titled EP just because of how comparatively accessible it is, but even saying that, this twenty ... read more
A little side note before the main chunk of the review: I'm gonna be reviewing all albums and EP's by Swans for the rest of this week and next week. Though unlike my Merzbow binge, I won't be making a review every day. Instead I'll try to make it every 2-3 days just so I don't get burned out writing reviews. I hope this is understandable, because a lot of my reviews tend to be a lot longer than your typical review.
