The plush and luminous soundscapes of The Aces’ sophomore album Under My Influence make it pure pop perfection.

The Aces have ambition, and it’s never sounded better.

The Line of Best Fit

A shorter tracklist would have strengthened the album – a lot of it is forgettable even after fourth and fifth listens.

Glossy indie-pop band nearly shake off their forebears.

While many singles and supplementary songs showcase the band’s talent, much of the record weighs in as forgettable filler sounds that take some time in getting accustomed to.

A bit poppier than their last LP — lots of contagious tunes that hold a fair bit of charisma within them. Second half drifts off a bit but I still liked this LP quite a bit overall.

This is a pretty good sophomore album from a band that I've been watching for a little while now. I liked their debut, and the singles I heard (Daydream, Lost Angeles, and Kelly) were really good, some of my faves on the full project. I wasn't expecting as many low-key tracks as we got but they're damn good. Songs like I Can Break Your Heart Too and 801 are great vibe tracks that add a lot of diversity alongside the dancier tracks on the album, making for a varied album. A couple ... read more

The Aces return with an outstandingly focused, meditative, exploratory new LP, that's sensitive lyrics and pristine pop instrumentation, equate to something fun and rewarding. Female pop artists are on a pretty good streak this year!

Jessie Ware, Dua Lipa, Rina Sawayama, Caroline Rose, and Half Waif are a few of the many that have released great projects this year, and The Aces make a case for themselves as well. Under My Influence is the second album by the band that broke onto the in 2018 with the breezy When My Heart Felt Volcanic. Comprised of four members, they try their best to break the mold of being labeled a "female band," but still embrace it, ... read more

This album smells like the end of summer, all the sad feelings and blew up expectations. I feel like these songs are great for listening while in a car, driving somewhere with the sunset as a background. I do think this sophomore album is a little better than their debut, songs like 'New Emotion', ' I Can Break Your Heart Too', '801' can become growers and potential favorites.
p.s: 'Lost Angeles' is amazing, should be a smash hit on the radio!!!
