The Needle Drop

Despite the plethora of hype building under this Texas MC and producer, Travis Scott's Owl Pharaoh doesn't sound like much more than a rap demo that bites its influences a little too hard.

Sounds like a guy who just lost his virginity to a free music editor...

One of the most generic pieces of music I've ever experienced.

In all seriousness though, this is an immediately forgettable project, except for the two or so tracks I hear in the bass-boosted memes, and I honestly do like the earrape versions of those tracks more than all of this. Owl Pharaoh is a decent start, but nothing extra ordinary about it that'll make you return to this over later projects of Scott's. 16 Chapels is good, but it didn't make the cut and instead found its way on the EP of the same name. Upper Echelon made the cut, and it hits hard, but doesn't have much substance to it compared to other tracks that fill in the album. You can tell Travis does not yet feel all too comfortable as he later will in Days before Rodeo and soon after Rodeo.
