‘The English Riviera’ is a deep sea of ideas and imagination: a far-flung, limitless dreamworld full of romance, nostalgia, lovers’ tiffs and good old-fashioned shagging.
The often indistinct music and insipid lyrical content mean that it's doubtful if its charms will last through to the autumn.
Palm tree vibes all the way
What a nice little album I like it. It’s just some super catchy indie bops, which I can always get behind. The production is great, the songwriting is pretty diverse and cool, and there are tons of standouts like We Broke Free, Everything Goes My Way (love the vocals on this one) and The Look (a song I knew beforehand). Also The Bay is soooo fucking good it is endlessly catchy and that bassline could kiss me and I would be okay with it. Good stuff here :)

Person 6: The Kit Riviera (4/5)
First words that came to mind the moment We Broke Free started were suave and sharp. And those words never left my mind the entire listen.
This album is very tightly produced, neatly arranged and it manages to completely kill it at the same time. Catchy hooks, confident vocalists and a sound so refined yet so groovy at the same time makes for some of the most cutting indie pop I've had the ... read more
The English Reviera is one of my favorite album of the last decade and I think it is one of the most captivating and addictive indie rock album. The melodies, the Basslines, the production, the vibe... Everything works together to make an album that's worth listening again and again.
Favorite: The Look
Very punchy electronic indie and indie pop record which doesn't always know when to decide between tight and calculated rhythms or more careless flows of melody. But I shouldn't present it like it's a problem, because that's just one way how to describe the clear identity that Metronomy gave to this album intentionally. Or not, I wouldn't know, but the point is that it works. The Look has been with me for years now, it's such a great tune, so it felt just as awesome to find out that the album ... read more
This was another random favourite of mine in the past. This is no surprise, as whenever I return to this album I fall in love all over again. The sound palette is simply a delight. Their use of traditional instruments with electronic elements is seamless, and achieves this bright, but otherworldly vibe perfectly captured in the alluring cover art.
The vocal style changes up so often, and this paired with occasional background vocals give so much depth to the whole thing. There's similarly some ... read more
