PHENOMENAL

This is easily my new favorite Oh Sees record. It's a very folk-inspired throwback to the experimental music of the 60's, featuring the band's trademark brand of psychedelia and oddball stonerisms. While some people have bemoaned this sound, I personally love it. Never really got into this band much at all but I always loved their version of "If I Stay Too Long" a whole lot.

Yeah, this one's just kinda bad. Sorry. I don't usually dislike Oh Sees albums, but this gets grating really quick. And besides, 16 tracks is way too long for an album that gets old by the fifth song.

pros:
- interesting sound
- decent instrumentation

cons:
- boring compositions
- grating definitely-not-King-Gizzard-vocals
- bloated

What benefits this album is that it is very captivating, and it's unique. They came out of their shell and no longer sound like so many other bands at the time. I love the distorted vocals and the raspy voice of Dwyer throughout the album. The ... read more
