It’s hard not to read autobiography into each of Ruston Kelly’s songs, and his songwriting certainly invites this approach. The current (and only) face of “emo country” and one of the genre’s leading sad sacks, Kelly’s marriage and subsequent split from Kacey Musgraves, and his struggles with sobriety, seem to inform each of his lyrics.
