I'm not a big Country guy, and some of this album leans that way, but the songs are just so well written, and it's mostly folk/pop I guess. The songs range from mellow introspective stuff to upbeat happy stuff, all made with acoustic guitars, piano, drums, and some strings thrown in for drama here and there. Great songs, great sound.
Lori McKenna’s storytelling ability is on point but her songwriting is oversentimental and uses country clichés as a crutch. The raw instrumentation is perfect for the style but the excessive amount of echo from the vocals is extremely offputting.
