Featuring a star-studded list of names from Charli XCX, to Dorian Electra, to Injury Reserve, to Fall Out Boy, the 19-track remix record has elements of bubblegum-pop, screamo, rock, pop, hip hop and pretty much every genre you can think of, creating an album that is a masterpiece in its madness.

The Forty-Five
While 100 gecs usually laugh in the face of colour-by-number pop, always scrawling out of the lines and making the sky red and the grass blue – just because they thought it would look kinda neat that way – ‘100 gecs and the Tree of Clues’ is, surprisingly, their most palatable output yet.

PopMatters

The album is insightful, moving, and points the way to new artists and their experimental music.

NME
By spotlighting upcoming artists alongside established names, 100 Gecs give an IRL boost to their ever-expanding community of internet collaborators on ‘1000 Gecs & the Tree of Clues’ while providing an exhilarating snapshot of pop’s alternative future.

The Line of Best Fit
It feels difficult to give this album a coherent discussion. This is some of the most futuristic and far removed from mainstream music being made at the moment.
79
Pitchfork
On this guest-crowded remix album, the duo continues its wild, swerving path through memes, genres, and decades, making some of its originals sound like demos in the process.

AllMusic
It's a little bit ridiculous but genuinely exciting in its strangeness, much like 100 Gecs themselves.

Exclaim!

Though their music can be playful and funny, 100 gecs are very much not a joke. 1000 gecs & the Tree of Clues makes it clear that Brady and Les know exactly what they're doing and that they've got an army of highly inventive and creative supporters standing with them.

The Needle Drop

Tree of Clues is an often wonderful companion piece to the original 1000 gecs.

Still Listening
Though their creative decisions often annoy me, I can’t deny that the amount of fun they’re clearly having with these songs is rather infectious.

I’ve come to the realization that 100gecs is one of those rare acts that are both overhyped and underrated at the same time. And what I mean by that is there are just as many people saying this is the absolute worst shit they’ve ever heard as there people saying that this is the next big thing in music.

Which side are you on?

This is a big step down from the original material in a lot of ways. When going into this album, knowing what a good remix album is like helps a lot. One of my all time favorite albums is a remix album that does the material so much justice, that I didn’t even know it was a remix album until many years later. Something that added to the original vision, or even deconstructed it entirely for a whole new purpose. In a way that is almost conceptual. That being said, I didn’t have that ... read more

This album changed my perspective on music entirely, the first 100 gecs songs I ever heard were from this album and made me fall in love and made me way more open to exploring new music.
