“uncover your mind”
the title track is probably one of the best dubstep-infused kpop tracks i’ve ever heard (up there with CLC) - even if it is a bit formulaic, irene and seulgi’s vocals over it absolutely suit the melodramatic nature of the siren and wubbing instrumental that, shit, honestly goes fucking hard
i think it’s fine they’re doing dubstep tbh, my opinion on the genre has changed a lot recently. and considering the two of them have been performing ... read more
1. Monster (Title Track): 8,7/10
"Monster" is a dance-pop track written by Kenzie and co-produced by Yoo Youngjin. This song has dubstep influences, something trendy in early 2010s and made it sounding modern fusing with some elements like the noisy synth and the sweet flute present in the last chorus. It's such a great badass k-pop.
2. Naughty (CD Only): 8,6/10
"Naughty" is a dance-pop track with some deep/future house influences, promoted as a follow-up single. Produced ... read more
Felt like it could have been much better. Was highly anticipated for this and really like the velvet/dark tones of this EP but overall it was underwhelming.
Expecting more of a punch and more risks.
they will never disappoint me. every song on this project is so good, seulgi’s solo was also amazing - one of my favorites on the album. Monster is a classic for sure.
Red Velvet IRENE & SEULGI's 1st Mini Album 'Monster'
The sole Red Velvet related release of 2020 was this subunit release by Irene and Seulgi. This release showed that the girls have a future without their traditional 5 member group structure which was nice to see. A very impactful release which plays with hard electro pop and r&b production with contrasting vocals with the silvery voice of Irene and the soulful voice of Seulgi. A very strong release where the members work together ... read more
now these two title tracks are amazing, if it wasnt obvious before this ep, seulgi and irene's voices complement each other so well it's amazing, i like naughty a little better but they both suit them really well and completely sell me on the dance genre of this ep
the b-sides, however, really drag this one down, which for some reason tends to be a common thing on solo rv projects, none of them really stand out to me and i always struggle to remember their names, the only remarkable b-side on ... read more
