I have no idea who Samia is, but she made some bops.
i actually clicked on this cause DaBaby was featured jk

Another indie escapade, this album has elements of pop, rock, alternative and pure uncut pop. The indie qualities on here make the New York crooner sound better.

Her voice isn’t the best I’ve heard, but I liked the amazing artistry backing this project. While some lyrics come off as awkward on this, there are some glimpses of good songwriting too. I might be a fan of her ... read more

i didn't go into this with much expectation, i had never heard of samia before but man her voice is so beautiful, this is such a promising debut and i think with some work on lyrics specifically she could put out a really gorgeous body of work

FAVORITE TRACK: Fit N Full

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Pool

Before going into this, I actually did know who Samia was. She opened for Remo Drive when I saw them and I knew then that she was extremely talented. Her 2017 singles, Welcome to Eden and Someone Tell the Boys, are so different from one another but both great songs with incredible vocals. So I was really excited for this release.

The Baby is not the most inspired indie pop record I've ever heard- or even heard this year. But what The Baby ... read more

I thought after the first song that this would be an album that benefited from reading the lyrics along with it and I was so right. The lyrics are surprisingly good and clever for music that sounds this fun (?) But yeah I love this. Also, the cover 😍

when the record is introduced with “Pool”, a tender opening track that ends up being overwhelming anxious in its refinement, it hits one’s ears hard. the preview of what’s to come throughout the rest of the project is installed, and it’s nothing more and nothing less than a vulnerable reading of Samia’s own diary. the intimate lyricism that she threshes out is so autobiographical that you’d only listen to it self-consciously whereas the staggering tide ... read more

EN: "The Baby" is like neutralizing your wounds and entering a journey of rediscovery. Analyzing what each of the songs means is a challenge, but attentive ears who want to delve deeper will have no problem doing so. Therefore, it is worth noting that the work is complete, with few holes and gaps left in the songs, saying a lot about young people with love disappointments or those who have traumas to deal with. I guarantee you that each time you revisit the album, it will be something ... read more

Listening to this album at night, with rain hitting the bedroom window after getting pizza for dinner was the end that my day needed.

Intimate debut of an artist that not everyone has heard of before, with some clichés, but very mature and fun to hear. Discovery of the day.

This is a pretty good start. While I really enjoy the first half of the album because she displays a lot of what she can offer lyrically and musicaly, I didn't enjoy the second half. Sure this is pristine but it loses a lot of personnality : minimal instruments, not that great songwriting, tracks very similar. You obviously cannot rely with trendy sounds with such second part (yes I heard some synthpop and 80's vibes here and there Samia héhé).

Samia's debut album is a good demonstration of her potential as a singer-songwriter, even though some of the instrumentation lacks style and personality. I like most of the production choices that are made here, but they're not necessarily original, as for a big portion of the album they all follow a usual indie pop sound. It's not that huge of a problem though, since it's very well done and Samia's mesmerizing vocals and great songwriting compensate the lack of personality that the ... read more

Definitely, Samia Finnerty could not have thought of a better title for the first solo album: The Baby (2020, Grand Jury). Conceived over a period of a few months, the record produced and recorded in partnership with Caleb Hinz, Jake Luppen, Nathan Stocker and Lars Stalfors, shows the effort of the New York singer and songwriter to meet creatively. Songs that reflect the constant sensation of displacement of the lyrical self, sustain in the verses the vulnerability of the artist and reveal ... read more

The Baby is phenomenal.

I hadn't heard of Samia until today, but after listening to this album multiple times and experiencing the countless goosebumps and serotonin it gave me, it's safe to say that this is one of my favorite releases of 2020. At face value Samia appears to be a basic singer-songwriter, and while she is a folk/indie rock singer that sounds quite similar in comparison to her counterparts, she stands out with insane vocal control, introspective lyrics, and instrumentals that ... read more

Samia is the future.

Her debut album The Baby is the sound of an authentic voice trying to find its way in the world, battling body image issues, misogyny, heartbreak and the pressures of being a teenager along the way. It’s the sound of raw adolescence turned outwards, spun through a web of wry narratives and insanely catchy pop hooks.

The Baby is an album that, the longer you live with it, the more you grow to love it. It’s a debut that slowly winds itself into your heart, and ... read more

Eu não conhecia a Samia. Pude ouvi-la pela primeira vez por conta das sugestões do Spotify em Is There Something in the Movies? e me apaixonei.

a fun and bright debut from singer-songwriter Samia Finnerty.

ever since i listened to her earlier releases (Welcome to Eden and Milk being two of my favorite songs from 2018) i was looking forward for samia to realease her first full length album, wondering what would it sound like (i was expecting it to sound more like Phoebe Bridgers’ Stranger in the Alps, leaning more to folk than rock-pop). the first half of this lp shines thanks to the great vocal performance and some really ... read more

If you were to only listen to the singles from singer Samia debut album The Baby, you would get the idea that you would be in store for a slew of catchy indie pop songs, but listening through you hear a majority of these tracks presents a singer-songwriter tone with nice instrumentations that allow Samia’s impressive vocal range to be on full display. The Baby turned out to be a well crafted debut for Samia and one that looks to be just the first stepping stone in what might be a career ... read more

She sings like others? Yep.
She makes a generic effort of something? Of course.
Is another songwriter talking about water and stuff? (Phoebe puentes xd)
Yes.
But you know, in the middle of so many options, if that specific generic and commun songs reached something in you, well in this case is different. There's something in the lyrics at their own way, you know Barnett is like folk stuff, Weyes is the beautiful and cool behavior lyrics and voice. Bridges, she talks about of water and makes ... read more

Don't miss this hidden gem of 2020!

This was an album I listened to on a whim. I have never heard of Samia before listening to this record, but I liked the album cover, so I gave it a listen. And I'm so glad I listened to this.

The Baby is just a super solid and enjoyable project despite not being the most unique and standout amongst the myriad other records in the same similar sonic-vain as this, but I just enjoyed this. The songwriting is pretty good and Samia's voice is really good. The ... read more
