The Telegraph

Familiar yet magical, Black is King shows Beyonce has long since flown past music videos; the passion and purpose that collided to such extraordinary effect in Lemonade wasn’t just a one-off. This is the electrifying sight of an artist at the height of her powers.

A.V. Club

Black Is King is a culmination of a year’s worth of work, and it brings impressive duality to an album that was once primarily connected to someone else’s story.

The Line of Best Fit

Black is King, and its knowingly cultural excellence, is mesmerising in its scope with lessons beneath the surface. Beyoncé gives an inclusive experience that feels like she should cure injustice for all whilst delivering entertainment in a league of her own.

Spectrum Culture
A glorious, if inharmonious, co-production between our greatest pop star and the Mouse House.

Consequence of Sound
Mrs. Knowles-Carter’s labor of love is a powerful film that makes multiple statements.

NME
Once again committed to aesthetic excellence, Queen Bey has proven that her reign is not without its own sprinkle of Disney magic.

Evening Standard
A sumptuous, breathtaking celebration of ancestry.

Slant Magazine

Out of a dazzling fusion of the hottest R&B and Afrobeat trends, this visual album proposes a pan-African vision of legacy, abundance, and unity, making it Beyoncé’s most wide-reaching and ambitious effort yet.

Disgusting. Let's talk about how Beyoncé (a light skin person) is the CENTER of a piece about Africa/Blackness. Not only does Black is King not discuss anti-Blackness in Disney, but Disney+ is still inaccessible in 36 African countries.

We tend to applaud the African aesthetic draped in capitalism. I hope we remember the BLM folks on the continent whose daily lives are impacted by imperialism. If we can't uplift the imagery, I hope we can uplift those who will never be able to access ... read more

The film is beautiful and truly a great culmination of African art and sprituality. The storyline can be muddled at times but the film presents enough good material to even the negatives out.
