Dupuis is able to happily immerse listeners into her world—one filled with the thought-provoking lyricism that becomes easily consumed through addictive instrumentation choices, be it synths, larger-than-life orchestrals or punky performances.
If anybody has access to a higher power of divine survival witchcraft, it’s Sad13.
Sadie Dupuis shows once again how vital her voice is.

With Haunted Painting, Sadie Dupuis may have outgrown the confines of what her solo project Sad13 was originally designed to do -- and that's a good thing.

Under The Radar

Pop is often unfairly equated with being one-dimensional. Haunted Painting exhibits why that is absolutely not the case.

Spectrum Culture
A kaleidoscopic amalgamation of Sadie Dupuis’ musical and personal obsessions that is as assured as anything she’s done.
Most songs are stuffed with diverging melodies and dense instrumentation. But Dupuis is such an adept songwriter and accomplished singer that the excesses are part of the appeal.
Beats Per Minute

The hook-heavy Haunted Painting is prime for tweens looking to break into indie rock sectors – it’s quirky, it’s light, it’s fun, and it’s Dupuis at her most earnest.

It is clear that Dupuis is constantly looking for ways to expand the possibilities of what she can do, and this can be heard in her music. Morbid is a less apt description than memento mori: a reminder not to waste time.
The Observer
The US multi-instrumentalist stops at nothing on her ambitious yet playful second solo album.
No Ripcord

There’s a unique, slightly wrong sound that comes with Sad13’s sophomore album, Haunted Painting.

This record is not bad. It has some catchy hooks and some of the glitchy synths bring out some fun. However, it isn't half as dark or edgy as it thinks it is. It may parade in a mask of gothic subtexts and violent undertones, but there's more of that to be found in a typical Lady Gaga effort than anywhere on this album. What it is is an acceptable, albeit a bit mediocre, exercise in basic synth pop with some clashes of distortion thrown in once in a while. That is all, no more, no less.
Indie band Speedy Ortiz’s frontman Sadie Dupuis releases solo music under the name Sad13 and on her second album Haunted Painting you find songs that take a real confessional approach in its lyrics, as the music comfortably lies outside the boundaries of conversational pop. There are more than a couple moments where songs take really sharp turn in unexpected directions, but there are still bountiful moments of well crated pop bliss. This one might require repeat listens for song to really ... read more

Com um álbum que é como uma arte, mas em algumas partes muito confuso, no Indie Rock se mistura elementos do alternativo com o rock, mas nesse eu não curti acho que não ornou muito, com algumas faixas legalzinhas, mas outras para mim ... read more
