Not a bad project, it has some great moments, and some not so great ones too (the part when Mark is whining about being warned to wear a mask in a store is a real headscratcher). Ultimately it's an enjoyable listen but Mark is definietly not in his prime lyrically and songwriting wise.
Mark Kozelek has released music under his own name, as the singer of the Red House Painters and now again, under his prolific moniker of Sun Kil Moon. He released what in my opinion is one of the best folk albums of the 2010s, Benji, but ever since, he has mostly been writing very lengthy spoken word albums, and Welcome to Sparks, Nevada is another example of that. Allegations aside, this is a really good return to form for Mark Kozelek
Pretty much more of the same from Kozelek, you either like that or you don't. But it's definitely more of a Mark Kozelek record than SKM
It's fine. There's not much wrong here. Good lyrics and songwriting, but many tracks were twice as long as they should have been and just felt meandering and aimless. The instrumentation was stripped back which is fine but got boring throughout many tracks.
Honestly it's fine I thought it was pretty good but I wish it was 30-40 mins.
Lemon balm is a really good song...
This was my first Sun Kil Moon album I have a feeling this wasn't the best place to start.
