The Air Conditioned Nightmare takes a turn toward themes of paranoia and desperation, often presented in a far more aggressive manner than earlier works.

Nestled in these adrenalised, highly evolved songs are bright pop hooks, showing that other artists could compete with Doldrums, but they wouldn’t be able to keep up. Take the red pill and enter down the rabbit hole.
Consequence of Sound
The album’s 10 tracks are an electronic counterculture update that proudly carries the scars of its disenchanted pioneers.
Drowned in Sound
It contains ideas squared and cubed into infinity, and has passages showing more creativity than a hundred lads with polished shoes and guitars could muster in a hundred months. It might not be grazing your end of year top ten, but there’s still plenty of goodness to feast upon.

The Air Conditioned Nightmare feels like another uncompromising work from the intriguing Woodhead, and in its wide-spanning sound, offers something to both long-time fans and new ones.
