FACT Magazine

If Goldenheart was a monumental but monolithic edifice of an album, Blackheart is a shape-shifting house of mirrors in permanent flux, light where its predecessor was heavy, welcoming instead of forbidding.

Pitchfork

Blackheart takes it down a peg from the mythology of Goldenheart into a more introspective, earthy realm—that it's wrapped up in inventive production that feels about five years ahead of mainstream radio is just icing on the cake.

Tiny Mix Tapes

Blackheart is ongoing and nearly seamless, unselfconscious in its refashioning of 80s guitar licks, steel drums, 256-bit EDM, flutes, and trap snares.

Spin

On the second album of her “Heart” trilogy she improves on the Linndrum sonics of her debut.

Dawn Richard continues with her expansive and alternative style of production but unfortunately not always creative or original. Along these fourteen tracks, she displays some interesting ideas and song structures that may intrigue sometimes, but overall, there aren't many moments in the record that keep the surprises going on beyond the starting point. The production is pretty good most of the time, though. Overall, a decent collection of alternative rnb songs.

Complete garbage...every modern trope imaginable is regurgitated into a sonic bore.
