I'm not a Taylor Swift fan.
Or at least... I wouldn't have called myself one until now.

I listened to last year's "Lover" with mediocre results. I found some cuts quite nice and refreshing, others just plain boring and bland. I didn't expect anything from that record either. With songs such as "You Need to Calm Down" and "ME!" that I had to endure in every Justice! store with my sister, I saw a steady but meaningful progression in her sound over the course of a ... read more

In 2020, I became a misogynistic. Wasn't really a choice, I don't think anyone would want to be one. I just woke up one day and it was a part of me. This spirit of hate consumed me and I became what I am today. I am sorry, Taylor. This is just who I am now. I am not judging your music, I am only judging you, as a woman. Hope you understand.

In full isolation like the rest of the world, Folklore shows the new musical turning point that Swift decided to sincerely grasp and relate to, focusing mainly on introspection. A deeply human album that could convince a listener unfamiliar with her music to let herself be immersed in it

Whether you are a fan or not, Taylor Swift has not only established herself as a simple superstar, she has always finally, throughout her career, been able to improve in all her different periods, evolving ... read more

Sometimes as a listener you simply need to get over yourself. Taylor Swift has come with fifteen years of hate for the music she's released in her young age, shifting from up-and-coming country artist to pop megastar before the age of 25. Even as her sound took on some minor variations on Lover, where she showed glimpses of maturity in her songwriting but equal flashes of the sugary pop that soured her on critical listeners, she didn't receive an exceptional amount of praise for the growth she ... read more

this is the breaking point. there was never a point but somehow it broke. simply, music journalism is dead but we should do something with it. honestly, I don't care what you do with it. screw it like a necrophile, have a photoshoot with it, crossdress it!... I don't care. all I see is rats eating the flesh off. all I hear is locust sucking its blood. all I smell is its soul in swimming pools of payola... what do feel? y' know what? this album is about sliting your throat in a log cabin. like ... read more

Taylor really does a good job giving off that winter atmosphere, it would be really cool listening to this album walking in a winter forest. the songs are very "indie", not something that I would see her doing but she did a great job of it. exile is my fav track, she's always been good with songs with features (even ME!) and this just further proves it. Bon Iver in this track is fantastic, and their voices together is very beautiful. the songwriting in this album is very nice ... read more

this is it; this is what swifties have been waiting for: it’s lowercase folk.

phoebe bridgers + lana del rey type music. it’s a numbness with a chill calm for percussion

the album is too long, the songs are too long, and the writing is clever

okay guys chill, finish this before rating and fuck off with the *it's been leaked* bs...

Imo this album is not just an amazing Taylor Swift album, this is an amazing album in general. She completely throws all the electropop thing out the window for a stripped down piano pop sound and I'm impressed, really impressed.

Her writing has never been more personal nor better, there's basically 0 cringe on this album, a lot of *damn nice* moments on each track, all of them are really stunning and ... read more

Journey in Indie, between embarrassment and real flights.

The lockdown has considerably affected the music industry but Taylor Swift has dusted off her wings with an eighth album (almost) free of intermediaries and advisors, the only queen in her sales kingdom. "Folklore" is certainly the first big release recorded during this pandemic to enjoy such an echo, although its release was only announced a few hours before it could be listened to. Her tour being cancelled, the singer turned ... read more

Taylor writes one of the best albums of 2020, possibly even the best album of 2020.

Now I would say I am a fan of Taylor’s work, I enjoy a lot of her songs and albums, 1989 is an incredibly good pop album, and Red another really solid release. Reputation was a low point and Lover was a return to form somewhat, if lacklustre. Folklore though is Taylor’s best album by far, it’s a beautiful deep dive into her mind and her struggles. She’s open, she’s vulnerable and ... read more

"folklore" is completely different to any other Taylor Swift record i've ever listened to. not necessarily in sound, although frequent musical partner Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner of The National do produce a gorgeous atmosphere that provides some of the greatest moments in Taylor's now lengthy career, Taylor still harkens back to a lot of instrumentation she has used in the past. it's not that the lyrics have drastically changed either, even though compared to the self-obsessed ... read more

Maybe I had overly lofty expectations, given the title and cover's aesthetic. I was "fingers-crossed" hoping for a rootsy Joan Baez-ish sound; what we've got instead is not quite the musical statement I thought I was going to hear...

Buuuut folklore is definitely still beautiful to me, with heartfelt lyrics that aren't too topically contrived. This is quite well produced but, on the other hand, I find myself feeling a bit snoozy a few times, with the instrumentation being perhaps TOO ... read more

Not only she's phenomenal but she's spectacular. Taylor Swift is the 21's century jewel. You can hate her and you can love her but you can't deny she's one of the most powerful women in music to ever live. Honestly this whole album made me cry, I felt what she felt, I laugh when she laughed, I dreamed when she dared to have a dream, and that's what I love the most about Taylor, she made escapism reality. In this special times of pandemic nightmare she made us believe in hope, and that's more ... read more

I keep listening to this and actually doesn't sounds bad.

Edit: the song with bon iver omffgg sounds really good.

Final edit: Yep, this is sooo good, the vocal performance is amazing, and the instrumentals and melancholic vibe wow.

Maybe 2020 is the year of the surprises.

TAYLOR'S INDIE FOLK ARC IS HERE

This is just great. It's an awesome direction for Taylor to take, and she fits the genre REALLY well. It's beautifully made, extremely well written (definitely some of her best lyrics to date are on here), the features are fantastic, and... yep, this is it. Folklore is Taylor Swift's best album to date. I'm surprised just how much I liked this.

all lowercase words = good album

Taylor Swift is a name I haven’t really thought about in a while. When reputation dropped, I didn’t care. When Lover dropped, I didn’t care. Her sound was changing so drastically, and it was changing for the worst as far as I could see. The singles just had no appeal to me. But when I saw this was getting surprise dropped I let my curiosity get the best of me. So what can I say about this album? Well, it’s a Taylor Swift album in 2020. ... read more

(ok I'm gonna go on a rant about Taylor's stans for a bit on this review just as a warning, it's not gonna affect my thoughts on this album but yeah)

Let's get this out of the way, this is a really good album. Taylor hasn't sounded this lush, honest and in her own on an album before, and while I do love 1989, this sounds more focused and like her. The instrumentation is breezy and beautiful, Taylor's voice sounds as lovely as ever and her lyrics are even improved upon, clearly showing that ... read more
