This album is so possessed with melodies that it’s possible to go through it without giving the lyrics a second thought
It merely seems like it would benefit from a bit more development.
Portugal. The Man are definitely one of the best melody writers, every song is so damn catchy. Overall, it is a really cool psychedelic pop rock album.

I love Evil Friends and all but it must be said that this album is the end of their more original/experimental-ish era. There's just far more creativity put on display on this album, love the occasional psych vibes, the chamber elements thrown throughout the track list, and the overall distinction between each song. The highlights are absolutely insane and there is very little filler, all around it's just really well crafted and written. Oh, and catchy too!

A decent album held back by just how similar it all sounds, and by the sheer quality of it's crown jewel of a closer. If this album takes place in the clouds, that finale is what it's like to summit the mountain and see the clear sky above the clouds.
My seventeen year old self thought that nearly every song having a second title was stupid and manually removed the parentheses from the end of each songs title. In retrospect, she was right.
