This version of Nick Cave has almost become familiar for listeners, especially those who have just started discovering him within the last decade like myself. Cave and the Bad Seeds have progressively become far more intimate and emotionally charged since their 2013 album Push the Sky Away. This closeness was intensified by the death of Cave's son. That event led to the release of the groups last two albums, Skeleton Tree and Ghosteen, which continued to reveal more layers to Cave as a ... read more

Heartbreaking live album, without a doubt my favorite this year. Catches perfectly my idea of a live show during these times, the atmosphere is amazing to say the least. I just hope that Nick is ok now, he's such an amazing person even before a musician, he doesn't deserve anything from what happened to his family.

FAVORITE TRACK: Spinning Song, oh god the goosebumps on that intro

An extremely intimate and touching performance, reflecting on life and death. An essential listen of the year.

It's Nick Cave so it's highly enjoyable and something that I wished I had been able to see at the cinema. Alas, Covid meant that my tickets were lost to the ether forever.

The songs are beautiful and Nick's delivery is as polished and powerful and passionate as you would expect from a musician of his calibre, but without the Bad Seeds pushing and pulsating behind him, the songs lose some of their power.

Nick Cave, a piano, a varied selection (a bit heavy on the boatmans call though) from his entire career, what more do you want?

A man who began his career as an angry, clamorous punk has evolved slowly in real time into the more tortured, sadder old man we see today. Nowhere is that better reflected than in this album's version of "The Mercy Seat", a song once famous for inspiring fear of death now seems to long for the freedom from pain that death brings. Nick Cave has suffered in all the ways life can possibly inflict on a man and lost more than you could ever know, so somehow, when he cries out "And I ... read more

Had no belief that this would reach the heights of Skeleton or Ghosteen but that's also okay. A third, equally demanding album, would almost be too much. It would transcend everything else and maybe turn me a bit numb towards it. Instead, there's this, gentle, stripped and often stirring collection of songs. Brilliant in simplicity. Unlikely to convert anyone to Cave but still great.
