Beats Per Minute

Granted, 2 Chainz will never make a Reasonable Doubt, but if he’s looking to attain Jay’s veteran status, So Help Me God! brings him one step closer.

Using a title scrapped by friend Kanye West, 2 Chainz offers his sixth proper album in a way that comes across as a promise and threat.

A record of diverse highs and lows, ‘So Help Me God’ finds the Atlanta MC revelling in his major league status, flipping through ideas at a stunning rate across its 15 strong tracklisting.

‘So Help Me God!’ showcases the good and bad of 2 Chainz: an artist laser focused on punchlines and bangers who can be inconsistent when he has to fill an entire album with both.

Generally, I felt rather indifferent towards this record. The first two tracks were a perfect way to demonstrate what 2 Chainz is capable of assembling but the rest of the songs are just worst versions of those two tunes with more generic beats and less impressive performances, softer ones that don't match 2 Chainz's tone or cuts that are bloated with dispensable features that don't blend well with 2 Chainz.

So,2 Chainz dropped another album and i gotta say this is decent. It's definetly better then his collaborative project "No Face No Case" ,which was his last drop before this (that one was a huge miss). The production on "So Help Me God!" is much better then in his previous works, those samples just hit different fr, and his flows seem much more cleaner, plus ... read more
The more emotional and personal songs are surprisingly good, but they aren’t enough to make up for the weaker points.

I love 2 Chainz and I really enjoyed his last album, but this is just not what I know he is capable of. It’s not bad and is decent, but neither him or the features he brings come through with a lot that is interesting. The beats can be really good, but this just feels a step backwards for 2 Chainz overall.

Nothing special or unexpected here. 2 Chainz seems to be playing it safe, and it has resulted in an enjoyable but very forgettable album. Here and there you can hear little dollops of potential, almost as if the album is mocking you with what it could have been. It's like if someone were to wave a freshly baked deliciously gooey chocolate brownie under your nose, only to chuck it in the bin and give you a reasonably tasty but slightly stale brownie from a week ago instead.

The highs are ... read more
