The bends that rip through For A Day Like Tomorrow sit in that sweet spot on the edge of dissonance and twee.
I Wasn’t Born to Lose You plays out like a promise kept from the resurgent Oxford quartet.
I Wasn’t Born To Lose You could’ve come out 10 or 15 years ago, and maybe the band will do another album just like it a decade from now. There’s something comforting in that, but it won’t cause a ripple outside a small subset of diehard fans with long memories.
I Wasn't Born to Lose You is a solid return from a band eager to sound like themselves again.
I Wasn’t Born to Lose You likely won’t replace any fan’s favorite Swervedriver album, but much like the entire shoegaze revival, it’s an organic, heartfelt piece meant for those fans as much as the musicians making it.
Pushing their particular shoegaze style and adding more "warmth" to it, Swervedriver stays on their tracks with their signature sound plus modern production that really helps the band.
Seeing the band live in Seattle a week before the album release boosted the score just a tad. I've been dying to here them, and welcome the new album with open arms (and ears). It may not be their best but there is plenty to replay on a long drive!! I hope Adam and Co. don't wait too long to record again.
