AllMusic
It's an impressive, filler-free debut that manages to be both uplifting and poignant, almost from beginning to end.

Katy J Pearson’s debut manage to make the oldest sound of musical heartbreak somehow seem, if not fully modern, then at least fairly timeless ... Whichever mode she’s in, however, Katy manages to find humanity in every moment.

The Line of Best Fit

She is flourishing and basking in the creative control, which shines through both her songs and the visuals that accompany them.

Incredibly freeing yet absolutely captivating, this album comes with an overall message of awe-inspiring resilience that leaves listeners with messages of hope and humility. Pearson reminds you to trust yourself as you chase your dreams while still letting go and giving up a little control to the world.

This collaborative spirit gives the sense that Pearson is being utterly true to herself on Return. In turn, this lends the album a likeability and instant relatability that suggests that what was the major label’s loss is her creative gain.

After the disappointing listen to "rising indie-pop star" BENEE's debut album, this first full-length by Katy J Pearson is a refreshing reminder of what indie music was always designed to be – fresh, energetic, youthful, and, most important, alive. Having said that, as with many other albums in the Indie scene, the record does fall into a few familiar trappings, that might as well just be labelled as cliches. Mostly in the tones used in the guitars and synths, sounds that can be found across literal hundreds of songs ... read more

É um álbum indie/folk e a sonoridade é incrível, não é monótono como diz em alguns comentários por aqui, tem várias nuances nos instrumentais. ... read more

Bit of a mixed bag to be honest, some really catchy, really great tunes, and then some that just really struggled to hold my attention. Overall enjoyed and the highs were definitely high, but the lows were pretty boring in my opinion. Tonight was a great start, really groovy eith a fun horn solo. Beautiful Soul was nice. The title track was really beautiful, couldn't get enough of this one. Something Real was good, especially when it picked up the energy a bit. I liked Fix Me Up a lot ... read more
