Never again would the band be this attuned to its '60s roots, making self-titled release a revealing and unique record that's certainly not short on significance, clearly marking the crossroads between '60s soul and '70s funk.

I’ve never heard anything from George Clinton’s group Funkadelic, but I must say that this is a notably less funk-y debut than I would have expected from a group with such a bombastic name. Rather, Funkadelic’s self-titled debut is heavy on psychedelic rock elements with a soulful and funk twist.

incredibly good, but points removed for the licking sounds in the beginning. hated that!

Funkadelic's debut is a powerful and really heavy psychedelic journey that offers so much great Funk and Rock instrumentation that provides a really atmospheric and enticing listen; I honestly don't get why Maggot Brain is hyped up so much as their absolute best when this first album of theirs is fairly close to being on that same level to me. I get it, Maggot Brain is definitely more quirky, weird and interesting than this one, at least lyrically and stylistically, but if you want to tell me ... read more

intriguing but incredibly fucking boring throughout. Whille maggot brain entrances you and takes you up and down a wacky rollercoaster, this lp slightly grabs your attention and then leaves you out to dry. drums are sick on this one though
