NME
Third album 'Not Real' catapults the Liverpool-based trio into a shiny, silver-suited, synthpop future.

On ‘Not Real’, you want to dance back around the campfire until sunrise rolls round like it’s 2012 all over again.

It’s more of a pop album, specifically a synthpop album – think Hot Chip, Bat For Lashes and maybe even La Roux. Yet for every catchy hook there is an unexpected detail, or a turn around a concealed corner.

AllMusic

Not Real, the band's sophomore long-player, eschews that penchant for pairing brooding, heathen folk-rock with shimmery, late-'90s dream pop in favor of a more accessible approach that seasons their circular harmonies and serpentine melodies with liberal dollops of icy electronica.

The Line of Best Fit

Consistently intriguing and occasionally glorious, Not Real feels like a genuine step forward.

Drowned in Sound

Too much of Not Real is nondescript and dull. It’s almost as if Stealing Sheep thought that recreating a sound from yesteryear was enough, rather than delivering any character of their own.
