Despite a couple of stylistic clashes here and there, DISCO4 :: Part I is a coherent, well-crafted and exciting experiment that paves the way for future DISCO works.

It weirdly feels like one of the most cohesive musical capsules for 2020: full of hell and devoid of genre.

Exclaim!

DISCO4 :: PART I is a wild and mesmerizing experience. HEALTH are one-of-a-kind creators who chose one-of-a-kind collaborators to accompany them on this strange sonic exploration where unique parts live in melodic, momentous harmony.

The Line of Best Fit

DISCO 4 :: Part 1 deviates from the DISCO format HEALTH established back in 2008 but plays with that disctinction to create a collection as essential as you’d expect from the series.

The Needle Drop

Featuring the likes of 100 gecs, Xiu Xiu, and Full of Hell, the somewhat uneven DISCO4 contains some of HEALTH's strongest material in years.

Yes! More of this and less of the synth punk bullshit! I beg of you!

This is legitimately the most interesting this band has sounded in a very long time, and I'm all for it. While I'm not too keen on 100 Gecs' or Ghostemane's features, the album as a whole is still very enjoyable with some particularly outstanding features from Full of Hell and Youth Code. I can only pray the band is going to keep this level of quality going forward, because they have not released anything this enjoyable since ... read more

Packed with both bangers and duds, new HEALTH's electronic project, DISCO4 is a solid collection of some of the most interesting ideas in the band's career. A rich selection of features, however, doesn't nearly cover the main Achilles' heel of HEALTH – Jake Duzsik's boring, sounding the same on every song (and almost on every album!), lifeless vocals.

Highlight: FULL OF HEALTH (with Full of Hell) followed by COLORS (with The Soft Moon)
Worst song: DELICIOUS APE (with Xiu Xiu)

Feature heavy electro-industrial music is fairly unheard of, but HEALTH manage to pull it off to varying results. While the intro CYBERPUNK 2020 sets the vibe to an eerie and surreal dystopian future, the following two tracks go in two completely different directions and it just feels like I'm getting whiplash going track to track as each featured artist take HEALTH's aesthetic in a completely different direction, although that isn't to say that that's entirely a bad thing, I liked that the rap ... read more

'DISCO4 (PART I)' is probably the band's most experimental work from now on.

Only 3 new songs apart from the singles...😔

Anyway, this entire album is pretty fucking awesome. Surprisingly, I think it actually flows really naturally. The fact that I can say that in an album which features artists from 100 gecs to JPEGMAFIA to Full Of Hell to Soccer Mommy to Xiu Xiu is unbelievable.

"DISCO4 (PART 1)" is a collection of collaborations that the aggressive, genre-annihilating band, HEALTH have racked up over the past years. The earliest of these singles ... read more
