2020 most definitely sucks ass but PUP’s new EP doesn’t – at least that’s a good thing to take from this clusterfuck of a year.

Paste
The 17-minute release compresses the Toronto punk band’s infectious feel-bad energy into 5 new ragers and one cover.

Pitchfork
If you can rise to your feet and declare proudly that this place sucks ass, you’ve taken the first step toward creating a place that sucks less ass.

Under The Radar

PUP’s odds-and-ends can easily stand with the best of what pop punk has to offer and there’s been no better year for this sort of nihilistic, neurotic punk.

Beats Per Minute

This EP is a fine stopgap between Morbid Stuff and their next full-length; nothing more, nothing less.

DIY
It feels like there’s never been a better time for a fresh injection of the Toronto punks’ spirit.

The Line of Best Fit

This Place Sucks Ass is both uplifting and cathartic, reminding us that however shit things might get, we are all going through this together, and even though this place might well suck ass, one things for certain in that PUP absolutely do not.

Spectrum Culture
The EP refuses to read as a naive “we’re gonna get through this just fine” narrative, but instead is painfully truthful.

Kerrang!

That’s what this record really is; a reminder of how fun music can be. Sure, it’s not as joyous as Morbid Stuff, but for a stopgap to keep fans going in these bewildering times, it does the job nicely.

this music is recklessly driven and it’s a blast. it seems simple, and it proves to be quite complex by ‘Edmonton’. “floodgates” is a banger.

So, I have a confession. I’ve never listened to PUP before. And seeing how I’ve never heard PUP’s music before, I can’t say I was excited for this EP to be released. However, after listening to this, I can say that this was surprisingly pretty good. I expected nothing out of this and instead got what is definitely one of the year’s best EPs. I love the energy these guys radiate. At its best, it’s some of the most energetic pop-punk I’ve heard in a ... read more

PUP continue to be one of the only groups that can pull off pop punk with a lot of creativity, energy and charisma on their new EP titled "This Place Sucks Ass".

FAVORITE TRACKS: Nothing Changes, Anaphylaxis

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Edmonton

You know what? This place DOES suck ass.

PUP's new EP feels like an outtake of tracks meant to be on Morbid Stuff. This Place Sucks Ass features six fast paced, anger-fueled anthems. The guitar on songs like Rot, Anaphylaxis, Edmonton and A.M. 180 are electric and fun. The vocals are whiny and mad in usual PUP fashion but it works great. I think Rot may have my favorite vocals from PUP to date. Floodgates sounds ... read more

Rot is a banger.
