With over 20 years in the game, Detroit's 42-year old 'syllable sensei' Elzhi can rightfully be called a veteran at this point. He joined Slum Village shortly after J Dilla's departure, and the projects he has done with Slum Village starting with 2002's Trinity: Past, Present And Future are all solid enough. But it is his solo catalog that is truly exceptional.

Elzhi dropped? Why didn’t I hear about this before?

Sure, it’s not El’s best project and it doesn’t even come close to Elmatic, but this is still a pretty good boom bap album. Elzhi’s bars are typically as great as they are. A near-perfect step-up from Lead Poison
eLZhi is a 42 year old MC from Detroit, Michigan rising to prominence as a member of Slum Village shortly after the departure of J Dilla in 2002. I Don’t really fuck with the production, it’s what you would expect from an average boom bap album. I do enjoy Elzhi’s rapping on here, but i preferred the more introspective nature of his previous album “Lead Poison”.
