A.V. Club

Bad As Me is entry-level Waits for newcomers, and for longtime fans it’s a fun reminder of Waits’ ability to be a badass when necessary.

When he's on form, which he is on many tracks on Bad As Me, Waits can still be utterly spellbinding.

90
Consequence of Sound

He takes his fair turns at singing, as opposed to unearthing, and delivers some of his more satisfying softer moments in recent memory.

No Ripcord

Bad As Me is contained and precise with each of its 13 songs hitting its target full on.

Drowned in Sound

Bad As Me sees the performer reaching back into his bag of tricks to pull out a few favourites in a characteristically exhilarating, terrifying, heartbreaking, tear jerking, bone-rattling style.

Beats Per Minute

Unlike so many elder statesmen who reach a point of clear decline, Waits has seemingly yet to come anywhere near that point.

Bad as Me is as essential-- and as essentially weird-- as anything he's done before.

waits has been using the same formula by and large since swordfishtrombones to great effect, his idiosyncracy is too great to deny album for album. and while maybe by 2011, this album is still a little too by the numbers and predictable by his standards, it's still a solid release. real gone went further though and remains his masterpiece of the later era of his discography. i wouldnt mind if this is his last album tbh. hell broke luce is one of his absolute best songs

Aqui se nota que Tom Waits ha perdido la chispa que le daba a sus canciones e interpretaciones una gran brillantes. Las canciones son buenas y la produccion tambien, pero a el se le nota apagado

The last record Waits has recorded "Bad as Me" is somewhat a bitter-sweet affair for me. It is a good closing off record with Waits giving some of his oddest and yet most real performances yet; some songs even sound like he is in excruciating pain. The album's themes are normal for a Tom Waits project as almost every track carries with it a sense of nihilism; that is before we get to the track "Tell Me" that oddly sounds like the most uplifting song Waits has ever produced ... read more

Yeah I get the appeal of this record but it really just doesn't do anything for me. Nothing on this album shows anything new from Waits and it's just boring. Waits' voice is that same gritty voice it's always been but it just doesn't add to anything on this record.

Best Track: Hell Broke Luce
Worst Track: Last Leaf

One of the better Blues albums of the decade. But this decade hasn’t been a decade for blues music either.
