Another fantastic Psychedelic Porn Crumpets record.
Distinguished by its wide eyed, maddeningly flamboyant mélange of ideas, these Perth psychonauts’ latest is so potent you risk getting tinnitus and/or a contact high from each monolithic twist and turn.
With the high energy psychedelic haze that metamorphosises around anything this band touch, their exploration of complexities forever surprise.
Packing 14 tracks into 38 minutes, it’s very much asprint, the breathlessness part ofits impact, but despite this intensity, mainman Jack McEwan steers SHYGA!... clear of excess and keeps his ear on melody throughout.
A riff heavy reveller that continues to harness the power of PPC’s love for a dirty groove, merged with woozy chemical induced highs.
A refined and cohesive progression to the band's eclectic sound.
Exuberant throughout, PPC’s trip has notched up a gear.
Unperturbed by overkill, the anthemic choral hooks and supercharged production values deliver a thrilling spectacle, even if the band are yet to realise their inflated ambitions.
The best thing about the Psychedelic Porn Crumpets ... is their brimming determination and passion which completely shines through the record, a powerful trait they’ve always had and hopefully keep.
Here, four albums in, McEwan and his fellow Crumpets acknowledge the less glamorous after-effects that are a considerably larger part of their lives now. Yet, for all of this, they still sound like a band content to party on.
I hate that I actually love this because if I'm ever listening to this and one of my parents ever ask what I'm listening to I'll have to explain that I'm listening to psychedelic porn crumpets.
With Oh Sees furiosity, Ty Segall abrasive style and the best King Gizzard's ideas, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets packed their energy into one hell of a ride.
“the tale of gurney gridman” is the emotionally stunning outro of ‘SHYGA! The Sunlight Mound’.
the song begins thrashing. verse one opens with, “1 pm on a monday / the bottle shop opens at 2”. as the “bottle shop opens” part is vocalized, the song actually splits open, and the crackling production effects kick in.
then, the song transitions into a dreamy psychedelic experience. the song’s tones eventually take a grittier ... read more

Psychedelic Porn Crumpets Review Arc #5
I think I remember Brad talking a bit about PPC and saying that, while the instrumental outputs are great, he hates how edited and reverb-y the voice of Jack McEwan is.
On SHYGA, this nitpick is even more punctuated, since the songs are shorter and the band leans more into the garage rock vibes than the heavy psychedelia explored on the High Visceral series. With fewer long psych instrumental breakdowns and ... read more
