This is my first time listening to Opeth, and I find myself fairly conflicted on how to feel. I feel like overall it has great moments, but this does feel like a bit of a drag sometimes and some of the choices the band took are questionable.

For one thing, I have to say that I really like the mix of progressive and death metal here. It's something that has always intrigued me and one of the reasons why I like bands like Gojira as much as I do. It's a mix that works more often than not, and ... read more
Not to let my huge love for Opeth completely get in the way, but from the very start Opeth had it done right. The fact of the matter is this: Opeth is the damn best Swedish metal band of all time, and one of the greatest prog acts of the last thirty something years. Opeth's debut, Orchid, is a solid entry into the metal, and more specifically the Prog metal scene. Most of the songs here just drag on a bit too long but the blend of death and prog metal is a good mix. There are moments of greatness on this LP but it just surround by unnecessary parts.

An extremely underrated work in the Opeth discography. This is one of their crown jewels.

"In The Mist She Was Standing" is a full-blown epic in the vein of "Black Rose Immortal" and is a sure-fire Opeth classic. "Forest of October" is my personal favorite track because of the haunting acoustic melody that begins and finishes the song. The instrumental interludes "Silhouette" and "Requiem" are dark and majestic and add significantly to the ... read more
Opeths debut, this thing is amazing. If you know me, you know Opeth is in my top 3 bands of all time. So during the quarantine period I'm going to review every Opeth album (Except the ones I've already reviewed, but I'll still re listen to them). Anyway, let's talk about Orchid!

Standing at 71 minutes, Orchid is larger than life. The best example of this is one of my favorite Opeth songs, Forest Of October. This album feels this way due to Opeths always amazing writing, the riffs and drums are ... read more
