CRITIC REVIEWS

100
Gigwise

From top to bottom, Good News vibrates with the infectious confidence and defiance of Meg’s straight-to-camera flow.

100
The Guardian
With easy flow, hard barbs and a magnetic persona, the rapper casts herself as the successor to hip-hop’s old-school heroes.
90
Clash
Raw and ruthless, ‘Good News’ is the sound of Megan Thee Stallion pushing against the boundaries imposed on her until they break.
85
Earmilk

The Good News about this album is that Megan exceeded expectations by delivering a memorable debut project ... The authenticity of her sound and the sincerity of her delivery takes this project up a level.

83
Consequence of Sound
We are more than familiar with Megan’s brilliance, but her debut album expands on it and reminds us that the charismatic artist can outrap your favorite in the game any day of the week.
80
NME

On her debut, the 25-year-old combines West Coast samples with the Southern sounds of her youth. The message: she's staying sunny, despite her setbacks.

80
Rolling Stone
The Houston superstar’s debut LP is the explosive victory-lap we were expecting.
80
AllMusic

While Megan Thee Stallion presented herself as a force to be reckoned with from her earliest material, Good News finds her triple-X-rated sex rhymes, imposing charm, and ability to make it all appear effortless reaching new levels.

70
Slant Magazine

A high-octane, heavy-hitting rejoinder that rearticulates the headlines of a year fraught by global and personal trauma for the Houston rapper.

Megan The Stallion is back with Good News. After a disappointing EP with Suga which showed Megan toying around with generic autotune and much more boring instrumentals than what she typically landed on prior to that EP’s release, Megan seems to be back on her shit here. While I’ve never loved Megan before, Fever was a pretty decent mixtape. That being said, this album ... read more

Double-edged sword: the album.
Megan Thee Stallion is a household name by now and she has easily already established herself as one of the most polarizing rapstars in recent times and all her success is definitely deserved as she is capable of making hit. Not only is she capable of that but she can also rap way better than her peers, she's easily one of the best female trap rappers out there. Even though there's not much worthy competition, it's still a compliment.
I'd definitely want her to ... read more

Megan Thee Stallion is a great rapper who hasn’t put out a great project yet.

Look, I have no problem with sex, but the best way to describe this album is getting off six times in a single week, no, in a single day, actually in a single hour. It just doesn’t feel...the same? Idk, don’t ask me, do I look like I’d do that...well that’s not a good question, but the point I’m trying to get to is that she’s overused this entire sex thing to the point where ... read more

Megan Thee Stallion may be the biggest breakout star of the entire year, moving from a talented up-and-comer to one of the biggest names in the entire music industry. Hot Girl Summer last year was her first big move into the mainstream, but that pales in comparison to her two number one singles in 2020, one of which is one of the biggest singles of the entire year. WAP is probably the biggest crossover moment in which Stallion was no longer a name to watch but instead a name we all knew, but ... read more
