The collaboration album 'The First Day' with Robert Fripp is obviously more guitar centred (otherwise why not just release another Sylvian solo album together?) and at the very least this affords this release some uniqueness.

Do David's vocals work as well when backed by more strident and loud guitar work? I would argue they lose some of their subtlety but for the most part they sound decent enough - here really the weakness isn't the style so much as the songs themselves. These arrangements ... read more
