MASTERPIECE

(ACTUALLY AN EP NOT AN LP) One of the only instances in which the phrase "True Norwegian Black Metal", as written on the bottom of the album cover, can actually be applied truthfully. Antichrist is a total homewrecker that exemplifies everything that made Gorgoroth legendary in the first place. If you passed off this band as Gaahl's little exercise in edginess, listen to the albums he didn't have anything to do with. This is amazing.

One of the earlier bands of the whole norwegian black-metal scene, Gorgoroth were one of the pillars of the genre, along other huge names such as Mayhem and Darkthrone. Antichrist, the group's sophomore record, highlights the cliches of the genre, but, backed up by some incredibly nasty vocals and the gothic-style riffage, the album breathes with unholy darkness, never sounding stale or uninspired.
