Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is more than just the work of a tortured, finicky pop obsessive. Corgan presents himself as one of the last true believers: someone for whom spewing out this much music results in some sort of high art for the ages.
With Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, the band turns in one of the most ambitious and indulgent albums in rock history.
The Infinite Sadness is what the average Pumpkins fan is going to encounter after the initial listen to this album.
Although Mellon Collie clocks in at more than two hours, it’s one of the rare epic rock releases whose bulk is justified in the grooves ... The problem, at least for rock fans who want substantive content with their seductive form, is Corgan’s lyrics.
Billy, open your nose
Before I start this review, I gotta say that Zero and Tonight Tonight have to be one of the greatest Alternative Rock songs ever. I always loved those ones, but never really checked out the whole album outside of the big hits. But yeah those songs are 11/10, just wanted to get that out of the way immediately.
