Taken as a whole, Deep England is a remarkable, memorable thing. Disquieting and disorientating for sure, yet offering plenty of strange, macabre pleasure.
Where Pastoral is a deeply claustrophobic affair, Deep England is a dizzying work that, thanks to off-kilter choir reinterpretations, sounds vast and unimpeachable.
Gazelle Twin's collaboration with choral drone choir NYX is an album centered around drama. Largely a reworking of Gazelle Twin's eclectic electronic album Pastoral from 2018, Deep England is so far removed from the style of that original work that you'd be forgiven for completely missing that fact.
