It's so cool to think about what this album could've been if it ever came out at the time. Like, this has some of their best material yet on it. For all I know, it might've been an even better album than Pet Sounds, but who knows on that one? But man, I enjoyed this. This just had so much character, and pretty much every track sounded amazing, even if some of them weren't even finished yet. The greatest album never made: The Beach Boys' SMiLE. The highly anticipated follow-up to their game-changing and highly praised album Pet Sounds. An album that was far more ambitious than anything the group had done before, and may have had a much larger effect on the world of music had it come out when Brian Wilson intended it to. One of if not the most tragic story in the music history is the creation and dissolution of this album, as well as Brian’s detereating mental state and decades of depression and mental instability that would follow. This marked the beggining of Beach Boys’ fall as it’s follow up “Smiley Smile” would flop hard.
