Easily my favourite out of Animal Collective albums I've listened to so far. I'd say that this certainly isn't an easy album to get into with this abrasive, less refined mixing, that makes it a clear indication of this being their debut album. However, despite not completely falling in love with album at the start, I get this youthful charm that made me love it when the album finished. This first Animal Collective album, thought as a solo project by Avey Tare and released as a collaboration with Panda Bear (just drummer in this album) is almost entirely made of a sweet, cheerful and slightly sad psychedelic folk. Before becoming fluorescent animals, AnCo had to go through a very difficult album debut. "Spirit They've Vanished", the introduction track, is based on a gurgling electronic noise, repeated without variation over more than five minutes. The second track ... read more
