Somehow this man sounds like both Logic and fucking JPEGMAFIA simultaneously, even though he's clearly influenced by neither. And somehow the end result is, by and large, tame and boring.

The LP is at its worst when Nyck Caution is rapping about his life over relaxed R&B beats and bringing absolutely nothing to the hip-hop scene. I'm really a fan of underground groups, PRO ERA in particular, of course. Although my expected favorite is Bada$$, I always follow their development in general. But if we talk about Nyck, he was always in the background, falling short in all aspects. Unfortunately, the debut album only heightened this feeling. While clearly talented on a technical level, Nyck Caution throws far too many cringeworthy bars into ‘Anywhere But Here’ for me to leave the experience impressed. He’s similar to Logic in a number of ways, and while a handful of his “come-up” tracks feel personal, he’s not nearly likable enough to let its many mediocre moments slide.
