echo may be an album steeped in hollow memories with a higher pain threshold than most, but it still remains to be an ode to love, to hope, and to everything that makes us human.

Uncut

Sparke emphasises the intimacy and immediacy of her performances on this debut, which sounds like you’ve walked into her rehearsal space.

Pitchfork
Co-produced by Adrianne Lenker, the Australian songwriter’s debut is a dark little star of intimacy and intensity. The atmosphere is rapt, the silences charged.

Beats Per Minute

Now is still a fine time to have Echo in our lives though, feeling like a delicate breath of soft vocals and guitars. It may not be everything you need or want, but, well, as Sparke says herself, “everything is simple.”

60
Mojo

She joins with Lenker, Angel Olsen and Lana Del Rey in the Appalachian canyon canon, but Sparke's heart-achy melodies and vocals hold their own, with skeletal instrumentation (sometimes just strummed guitars) enhancing rather than competing.

60
Loud and Quiet

Were Sparke to lean into the sparseness and interiority of her songwriting, Echo would be consistently spine-tingling. As it is, although there’s plenty to admire here, it’s too precious to be perfect.

Anything Adrianne Lenker touches is worth more than gold at this point. And female folk vocalists are also at the top of the food chain for all I know. Because this album ate me up wholly. Holy, is what it is.

A nice little folk record with calm vibes.

Simplistic, but touching. Indigo's voice accompanied only by a reserved guitar brings a meditative or even therapeutic serenity, and even though "echo" is not a grand production of any kind, it's really worth experiencing.
