Drowned in Sound

It's an album heaving with ideas, but just coherent enough to stick together as one piece of work - it's slightly erratic at times, and perhaps a bit of prudent editing might've aided matters, but c'mon - this is The Orb we're talking about.

The Guardian

The Orb could probably have made Moonbuilding 2703 AD, their 13th album, at any time in their 27-year career. But it has a back-to-first-principles feel to it.

AllMusic

A decade after they delivered Okie Dokie It's the Orb on Kompakt on...Kompakt, Alex Paterson and Thomas Fehlmann return to the stalwart Cologne label with an album bearing a less sportive title and it sounds like serious sci-fi business.

PopMatters

Moonbuilding 2703 AD is as deep and eerie as anything they’ve recorded before, maybe more so.

70
Slant Magazine
It's never quite a tour de force, but as a union of the Orb's heady roots with their spiritual ascendants' minimalist ethos, the album is a consistently satisfying groove machine, and a worthy entry to the upper ranks of the Orb canon.
70
NME
Full of masterful control of mood and atmosphere but too unfocused to really raise the temperature.
70
Exclaim!
The Orb have once again opened themselves up to be inspired be the sounds and artists they truly admire.
70
Clash
Deep into the band's middle-age they excel at entertaining those who appreciate what they do, letting others worry about converting the unbelievers.

Pitchfork

Some moments on Moonbuilding show the Orb, if not regaining their form, then offering up decent ambient music. But elsewhere they revert back to a formlessness that's devoid of their quirky stoner persona.
