CRITIC REVIEWS

90
Drowned in Sound

If her last was a pean to empty, brittle space, Glider feels closer, more intimate, and infinitely warmer. It's an album that slowly reveals itself over multiple listens, and if you really delve into it's myriad charms, what you discover is a world of graceful beauty and adventure.

The Line of Best Fit
It is a swooning, whispering delight, impressive to the extent that one would be even further remiss to continue primarily viewing Broderick as Van Etten’s background vocalist.

The 405

There is more than meets the eye with Glider. Subtlety is key. Ms. Broderick knows this. With the time and production value put into these songs, they could have easily gone the direction of Top 40. But it didn't.

Clash
It might not cut as hard and sharp as Van Etten, but her careful lullabies ooze with enough steady sadness that when the light finally does break through, typically via bubbling layers of instrumentation doused in near shoegaze-ready echo, the result really is akin to soaring above the pines.

Paste

Broderick is a talented singer with a knack for moody atmospherics, and it makes for a compelling sound when it works. But for all its textural beauty, Glide too often does what the title suggests, with songs that float by without really sticking.

Pitchfork

The record walks well-treaded territory lyrically and musically. It almost feels like Broderick is imitating a Walden-esque romance of loneliness in the desert or the pines rather than crafting her own, or at least effectively and personally staking her place in it.

"Wyoming" is one of my favorite tracks I've heard all year and may reign towards the top. All the tracks shine; though maybe not as brightly.
