2021 was a pretty mediocre year so far, but everything changed when I saw this release. "An Overview on Phenomenal Nature" is the second release by singer Cassandra Jenkins, and is a spectacular album.
The sensation I had while listening to this record was as if it had opened my head, poured honey on my brain and massaged. It is so delicate, melodic, consistent, that it is as if it takes you to another level, where there is no concern and you just need to delight in the wonderful ... read more

The most striking element about this record is how intimate she sounds: not in the sense that Cassandra is sharing with us her most personal and darkest secrets, but the fact that she's willing to tell us about the little things in her life – the three-legged dog, the security guard with a Queens' accent, or even the swift sound of children running and playing on the closing track. She's an observer, not a storyteller.

Tranquility is a very wild state of mind on the contrary of popular belief. The poetry is a catalyst from all that unexplored dimension, as a net being built by a spider the chaos can be meticulous and incisive, so be aware of your surroundings, you might get caught by the void the sucks everyone and everything.

Built from soundscapes, conversations, and a loose saxophone, Cassandra Jenkins creates music that explores everyday feelings with acute clarity. With grand moments of lush instrumentation and quiet melodies that float in the air, Jenkins manages to create songs both intimate and expansive. The ultimate strength of the record is the way Jenkins can construct entire worlds through small interactions. The music feels mundane in a productive and energizing way; everything is an opportunity for ... read more

Soft and illustrative, "An Overview on Phenomenal Nature" is a showcase of Cassandra Jenkins' brilliant, expository songwriting, as well as musical variety. We have some tasteful indie rock flavours on tracks like "Michelangelo" and "Hard Drive", more folky sound on "New Bikini", or "Crosshairs", and even the touch of ambient, revealing itself fully in the closing track. Everything bonded together by the ... read more

This was an absolute experience. This album asked for my hand and took me for a ride throughout this sunset-driven seaside city and I'm just gonna be in the backseat lying down.

Cassandra Jenkins second full length record "An Overview On Phenomenal Nature", is a very calm yet elegant listen that captures your mind and puts you in a state of beauty and wonder. The thing that made this album was the lyricism and her quiet and gorgeous vocals that send shivers in my skin. Whenever it is her talking to a psychic on "Hard Drive", or being in the arms of someone else's on "Crosshairs", it feels like she is assured with the routes she is ... read more

I came for the phenomenal songwriting and ambient-esque production.

I stayed for the random saxophone sounds.

Lands somewhere between the abstract folk’isms of Bon Iver and the relaxed conversational feel of the most recent Eleanor Friedberger album - mellow goodness, an inviting sound but the songs themselves aren’t so striking.

Step 1 : make yourself an infusion.
Step 2 : put yourself under a blanket.
Step 3 (optional) : grab a book.
Step 4 : get ready for a sweet and peaceful experience.

I know that next time I will listen to Cassandra Jenkins' second album "An Overview On Phenomenal Nature" I'll do so, even if the album is not a masterwork.

The composition is not bad : the main chord progressions are nothing really special but the side melodies heard through the album are really nice to hear.

Cassandra Jenkins' sophomore album is quite a treat; that damn saxophone hits the spot! I love her songwriting on this record. Tracks like New Bikini and Ambiguous Norway showcase her vulnerability, as recalls the moments hearing of David Berman's death. And I'm not much for spoken word tracks, but Hard Drive is fucking incredible, it's definitely my favorite of 2021. I love the double meaning. I hope people give it a listen.

An Overview On Phenomenal Nature is an album with gorgeous, almost transcendental instrumentation that mixes indie folk and ambient music in a very elegant way but that often feels boring and too empty. Songs like "Hard Drive" and "Hailey" are really pretty production wise but their melodies are almost sleepy and their structure feel a bit too loose in my opinion. I also think Cassandra's vocal style contributes to make those songs so boring to me because her voice is very ... read more

Second album "An Overview On Phenomenal Nature" by US songwriter Cassandra Jenkins goes through the expansion stages, acquiring many images and references, monotonous dialogues turning into a mixture of drums and electric guitars, it looks like something meaningful and voice, the singer fully illustrates her feelings and emotions, and also shows her attitude to the world through the prism of melancholy and atmosphere

It’s all just beautifully agreeable. Some specific and piercing lyrics make this a special journey, and Hard Drive is a truly special track, can’t wait to spend some more time with this one.

Cassandra Jenkins’ sophomore album doesn’t have much more depth than its beautiful chord progressions and singer-songwriter cliches.

Perfection more than a concept of something obtainable is in my opinion the concept of something everyone tends to chase. Perfection is not achievable, but we still strive to accomplish it. Vince Lombardi said, "Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection, we can catch excellence." Hard Drive is excellent. I wish I could go back to 1st time I heard that track because it just felt transcending, as if Cassandra had an epiphany, a moment of complete clairvoyance and this ... read more

Everyday life is something so complex, yet so simple. I think this is where the beauty of this album lies on — simplistic melodies making everything so comfortable without turning it boring. 'An Overview on Phenomenal Nature' has this peaceful atmosphere surrounding it, and thus making it a very moody album. I would play this one in those days where I need something to place me inside of my brain and just relax.

I don't know if it's because of the album cover, but all the tracks feels ... read more

This album was very enjoyable! I really like the ethereal quality that was on this album, even with the last track basically just 3 mins of ambient nose I still think it really added to the album’s thematic presence of reminiscent memories and love and loss. My personally favorite tracks are New bikini, hard drive (which is one of my favorites songs of 2021 so far!) and hailey. Would recommend this album to anybody who enjoys Cassandra Jenkins or even folk indie and indie pop! :)

In a timeline with an acutely-increasing number of female led singer-songwriter records, more often than not centralizing around this current period of time and state of the world. Cassandra Jenkins is able to break out of the mold with some of the most breezy and thoughtful ideas so far. Hard Drive will be viewed as the clear highlight, and rightly so. A track that carries that je ne sais quoi which you only indentify when hearing it. The rest of the albums flows nicely too. Thriving on a ... read more

Within the boundaries of the contemporary aor / folk revival. Yet absolutely enjoyable from the first to the last note. Enough musical twists and surprises in the mix to keep the tension in an otherwise slow and delicate flow. Definitely more my cup of tea than for ex Haim or ichiko Aoba

So peaceful and blissful with jazzy horns and nature sounds, even when she's talking its nice and blends well with the song, doesn't even sound like interludes where other artists annoyingly put in

"An Overview On Phenomenal Nature" definitely reveals Cassandra Jenkins as a one to watch. Some of the jazz-inspired folk/indie pop that this record flaunts definitely stands out and, at its heights, really suits the tranquil vocal performances and intimate lyricism. From the sound of things so far, you really have to beg the question: what could possibly go wrong when all is well and good? Well, as well as proving Cassandra's worth as an artist, this record also revealed the answer ... read more
