coming off the back of his great debut, destined 2 win was destined 2 fail. his 2019 debut perfectly encapsulated the melodic trap wave that peaked that year when artists like Polo G, Quando Rondo, and YNW Melly were popping off. his vocals were perfect, he had infectious melodies, and the only thing that could be improved was his production (which was a little lackluster but still crazy atmospheric and perfectly mixed). i was excited when the first single of this album, "Move On", ... read more

Destined 2 Be Mid

Lil Tjay has somehow managed to capture an audience heavily made up of suburban white kids that think his music is fantastic, and I’ve never really understood how or why. I’ve always found his music to be painfully average and boring, and never really seen what made him stand out in this lane of melodic trap. His music is typically just the standard formula of melodic piano trap beat with some mediocre auto-tuned vocals. I mean, on a song where the instrumental is ... read more

my score is not a joke please help

Tione Jayden Merritt , most professionally known as Lil Tjay, is a NY born R&B, Drill, and Trap artist. Before breaking through with this amazing record, he released two projects when he had just turned eighteen. "True 2 Myself" was an outstanding project which had hits like "F.N"; "Sex Sounds"; and "Leaked". Tione was also known for his collaborations with the late drill artist Pop Smoke. The two had worked ... read more

Lil Tjay returns with his second studio album, and yes, it is definetly destined 2 win.

I cannot understand the low score here. I feel like the hate simply derives just from the fact that this is a trap rap/melodic trap release. I mean, there's no other aspect that i find "hateable" on it. There's plenty of genuinely good vocals, overall improvements on his style and a lot of emotion involved into his lyrics, much more of that then in his debut, which i sorta still find equal to this ... read more

His whiny nasal flow is so annoying holy shit. Luckily he shows a tiny bit of versatility and manages to make Destined 2 Win just mid instead of unlistenable.

Lil Tjay shows how not to make music at his second studio album, Destined 2 Win. Even three years after he signed to a major label, it seems like he is stuck in his SoundCloud era of cheap, low-effort production and editing.

At this time, hip hop music dominates the mainstream all around the world. This genre EXPLODED during the 2010s. And why? Internet is probably one of the main reasons. It became widely accessible during the previous decade and allowed many musicians to become visible even ... read more

calling my phone, headshot and none of your business are fire. The rest is classic Tjay, which is usually mid unless it’s drill

"Destined 2 Win", despite seeing his name just about everywhere, was my introduction to Lil Tjay in album form. Whilst I've forcibly become aware of many of his most popular songs, there's never really been an initiative for me to check out any of his albums. However, when this dropped today, I decided I'd give Tjay the benefit of the doubt and check it out. Unfortunately, this record presented nothing but an incredibly banal experience, one inundated with generic beats, irritating ... read more

So uninspired and boring. Basically a filler album to keep his fan's happy

He doesn't sound any less annoying than on True 2 Myself or State of Emergency on most of these, and the songs and lyrics are straight up terrible. e.g. "She was smoking hot like the type to give you cancer"

Wow, "Destined 2 Win" is everything Lil Tjay shouldn't have done with his second album.

Wow, the singing on this has taken a toll for the worst. His screeching vocals on some of these tracks is beyond awful, check "Life Changed" for proof. Tjay's delivery has become either extremely lazy or hard to listen to, the happy medium that was present on his previous album is almost gone here. His flows aren't tight and he sounds like he doesn't care about how the end result of the ... read more

i wonder what goes through these rappers heads during the album process? do they record it in one sitting and think, “ this is a hit, on to the next” or do they just try to make a good song using the same formulas, thinking this will last? anyways, this album is super forgettable. i don’t even remember more than half the songs, but mainly cuz they all sound the same and zoned out. the only standout it easily calling my phone, but you could pick any song and think it’s ... read more

Lil Tjay always had a tendency to walk close to the border of having annoying vocals but this time he is spending way too much time on the wrong side of that border. Also, who gets paid to mix these songs? My man is being ripped off.

There's some dope tracks here but man there's a lot of filler. I think the funny part is that the best songs pretty much all have features or just have Lil Tjay actually taking the time to write some compelling lyrics.

Better than I expected. I remember absolutely hating that State of Emergency record. This is nowhere near as bad

Time to do my Fantano impression for this album just to try and make this review somewhat fun:

This new Lil TJay album....
is NOT GOOD 💣 💥

Lil TJay’s second album comes right after his debut album ‘True 2 Myself’ and during the midst of an ever increasing pandemic, which has resulted in an uprising in certain genres of music such as indie pop, indie rock, and bedroom type music but during this time has resulted in a decrease in the popularity of trap. Multiple trap ... read more

Destined 2 Drop This Mediocre Ass Album

If it wasn't for Calling My Phone, this rating would've dropped all the way down to like a 28.

In the overly -saturated environment of pop-trap music Lil Tjay is surely not the worst you can expect, but this album sound plain, apart from the 6lack feature.

Typical melodic trap. It's listenable, but pretty average. Biggest complaint is how long this thing is. Anyone who can listen to Lil Tjay for an hour straight is built different.

Favorite Tracks: Calling My Phone, Headshot, Run It Up, Move On

Tjays first project was okay and even had at least a few highlights despite being too long and bloated with cringe songs like leaked and sex sounds and i was holding out hope for this to be good because of the potential i think he has but he clearly refuses to progress and learn from his mistakes. Somehow this is worse than his first project still being WAYYYYY too long having songs that just sound the same as the one before it. Despite its start which i didn't think was terrible it lost all of ... read more

What's the appeal of this guy?

Has to be one of the most uninteresting rappers out there right now and his voice oh my god...
It's annoying.
