Sure, they don’t really step out of their comfort zone or challenge themselves (or listeners) with radical new directions, but they don’t need to. Instead, they play into their strengths and most adored characteristics to satisfy as much as possible. In other words, Liquid Tension Experiment has a very specific gimmick, and as always, they do it better than just about anyone else here.

Mike Portnoy reunites with John Petrucci and Jordan Rudess for Liquid Tension Experiment’s gleefully self-indulgent comeback.

They may all be 20 years older, but age has not dimmed their nimble fingers or their musical wits, and the well they're drawing from is apparently inexhaustible.

It has been 22 years since we last got new music from LTE, apart from a few reunion shows in 2008 it's been silent for all those years. The boys are back with a new instrumental odyssey. Honestly, you know what you're getting out of this if you're familiar with the group's and their members' past works. Thankfully, their age hasn't shown as much on here as I thought it would. Every member still has impressive chops, the songwriting skills are still strong, and, most surprisingly, the melodies on this jump out of corny territory into somewhat gripping passages. It's nothing you hadn't heard on previous LTE albums, but I would ... read more

Technically impressive, spiritually and emotionally bland aside from a couple of Petrucci's Solo.
