Harlecore is '90s rave held up for review, assessment and full enjoyment, and if there isn't a ton of depth here, the breadth is more than impressive enough to make up for it.

Dork

‘Harlecore’ is a truly thrilling creation.

God Is in the TV

Across this LP, Harle and his collaborators have delivered four distinctive EP’s worth of material. These would work well as self-contained records, but smooshed together sound even more vibrant and exciting than they would otherwise. Their differences highlight the skill and intricacies in Harle’s work.

The Forty-Five

With an internet’s worth of influences, four rooms and three collaborators who take on post-human alter-egos, Danny L Harle’s bop-it-twist-it-pull-it pop is taken to a whole new dimension.

Pitchfork

The PC Music alum surveys the history of rave, sucking serotonin from its gleaming extremes: teeth-chattering trance, Thunderdome-worthy techno, and psychedelic chill-out.

DIY

The Observer

Harlecore is big, dumb escapist fun with – as no one says any more – a massive donk on it.

The Needle Drop

Old school trance and rave vibes are back with a vengeance on Harlecore. Then MC Boing crashes the party.

The guy is really talented and he actually has a nice musical taste, which you can hear on tracks like "Ocean's Theme" and "On a Mountain". In my opinion, he should move on to something more down-to-earth, because this genre is too bizarre to appreciate his skills.

“Harlecore” is being billed as “the eternal rave”, with Danny producing hyperpop takes on EDM and trance music with different DJ personas. MC Boing is Lil Data’s persona, DJ ... read more
