Lyrically and sonically, Smerz's Believer is a bold, risk-taking LP that charts a wild, uneven ride through trance, classical, R&B, and hip-hop.
The promising duo 'Smerz' finally debuted and the expectations come along with the record. Since 70% of the album are instrumentals I would like to focus on describing what I felt listening to the productions. I would like to state that the tracks flow very well, everything works like a stair, it's climbing towards different directions but all in one objective.
There's a little bit of everything, even church kinda sounds, some house productions, hyperpop, different instruments, and when they ... read more
if the cult from midsommar threw a rave, this would be its soundtrack
EDIT: this is my most listened to album from the year i literally went INSANE listening to this its so weird but i kind of really like it
Smerz finally drop their first LP. The pagan duo release a witchy pop album with a floral collage of electronic textures along with a vast orchestration in minimal ways. They know how and when to make certain moments as slow and methodical as they need to and it works. This album is riddled with their best qualities heard in their previous two EPs and although it’s not filled to the brim with catchy singles, each song has its merit to be released as such.
I was wrong about this album initially. It is a unique evolution of their sound, sonically and vocally very impressive. Great production, I desperately want more Smerz.
Scattered and varied, this made for an interesting album. However, this jumps around so much that it's hard to ever really feel it. There were some great moments, from multiple different genres, but there were also a lot of boring moments. Yet somehow, this still happened to feel like a coherent project. Overall, it wasn't the best, but it wasn't bad. Just a lot of jumping from place to place.
